If you feel called to serve on the Board of Directors, please check the prerequisites and guidelines below for eligibility. Have a chat with a current board member as to their experience, and/or inform the office of your desire. We greatly appreciate your calling to service, however that may show up.
Prerequisites for Nomination
The Pathwork of California Board of Directors holds the important responsibility of literally bringing down to earth the spiritual teachings of Pathwork. Manifesting this material in practical ways and helping it to spread throughout this region and the world is a wonderful, challenging and deeply rewarding opportunity for service. Nominees for the Board of Director are required to complete the following:
- Have completed 2.5 years of the Pathwork Transformation Program.
- Have made a public Stage II Commitment or be willing to do so prior to accepting a Board of Directors’ seat. See lecture AD6 – “Stages and Questions”.
- Have attended at least two Board of Directors’ meetings as a silent witness.
- Study and work with their helper on Pathwork lectures #46 – “Authority”, #237 – “Leadership – The Art of Transcending Frustration”, and other relevant lectures. Board of Directors’ Members deal continually with authority and leadership issues, which might be troublesome if not brought to awareness and worked-through.
- Complete at least one session with their Helper on their desire to serve on the Board of Directors prior to the annual meeting.
- E-mail a written statement for the community to office@pathworkcalifornia.org at least 2 weeks before the annual meeting that covers:
a. The experience, skills, resources or qualities that they are able and willing to offer in service to our Pathwork community.
b. Their intention in committing to this form of community service.
c. A summary of what they have found in their personal work with their helper regarding their call to serve on the Board of Directors.
d. Any other relevant information, such as computer or email skills (or lack of), ability to attend (or not attend) Board/Council meetings, and unique aspects of their candidacy. This can be pro or con: the community may well have a strong interest in accepting a candidate who has difficulty fulfilling a specific responsibility who might bring other valuable gifts as part of their leadership.
Again, the office must receive Candidate’s statement no less than 2 weeks prior to the annual meeting so they may be sent to the PoC membership.
Guidelines for Board of Director Members
The Pathwork of California, Inc., Board of Directors has created the following guidelines for Board Members. Individuals volunteering to serve on the Board are expected to:
- Attend Board meetings as they are scheduled. These meetings may be held in person or virtual. Other group meetings (such as joint faculty-board meetings) may be scheduled.
Board members will be expected to pay any lodging costs incurred unless a written reimbursement request for the year is submitted to and approved by the Board. This request may be made at any time within a fiscal year; yet not retroactive. - Have access to and be available for email discussions and votes. Members are expected to check and respond to their email at least twice a week; those who are going to be unavailable for more than one week are to inform other Board members in advance except in cases of emergency. Members should be aware that there may be instances in which more frequent email communication is necessary.
- Have a minimum of one helper session per month during the program year (September through June). This requirement is a recognition of the need for spiritual consciousness in the leadership of the Pathwork of California, and only affects those Board Members who are not part of the PTP or HTP programs. It is specifically not in addition to the session requirements of PTP or HTP.
- Recognize that spiritual leadership will entail doing personal process work, might entail facilitated group process with other Board members and possibly interactions with other community members that may result in projection and transference which is a natural part of becoming a leader in a spiritual community.
- Accept that the process of spiritual leadership involves performing specific tasks, such as holding a position as Secretary, Treasurer, or Vice-President / Chairperson of the Board, or taking on projects such as the production of a newsletter, brochure development or outreach management. If you are not willing to take on your share of these tasks, you may be challenged by other Board members as to your intention in serving on the Board.
- Commit to clearing any negativity that emerges with other Board Member(s). This may be done privately, in an individual or joint session with a helper, within a facilitated Board meeting. (This last step requires a request to the faculty). This is an integral part of the Second Stage commitment.
Any active member of PoC is generally invited to attend Board meetings. However, should an individual board member request that a meeting (or a portion of a meeting) involving personal process be closed to the membership, the board will respect the individual board member’s need for privacy and declare the meeting (or a segment of the meeting), closed. - Assist in communicating the duties, responsibilities and concerns of the Board to any community members who requests it, both for their personal edification and in order to encourage others to consider leadership positions.
- Board terms are for two years. The decision by any Board member to resign before their term expires will significantly impact the functioning of the Board because it disrupts a spiritual and practical bond. As a part of the original commitment to join the Board, each member agrees that if it becomes necessary to resign before the end of their term, he/she will:a. Have at least one session with their helper before declaring their resignation or attending the last Board meeting.
b. Attend one Board meeting after the announcement of their resignation to help in creating an orderly and worked-through termination. - Before each annual meeting, Board members are requested to share with the community what their experiences have been during their term, as well as to be transparent about any ongoing issues or processes that have not been resolved. Members are encouraged to inquire with Board members about their individual work or the Board as a group.
